INTERVIEWER NOTES
I met Tony at a gathering organized by Dr. Keith D. Lowe, and he, my partner Stephanie, and I hit it off. Given that Tony is a fixture of Toronto’s media scene — and sometimes even writes about the Chinese Jamaican community, and his experiences within it — I couldn’t resist asking him to participate in an oral history interview. He not only graciously obliged, but generously overfed me delicious food as well.
I especially enjoy that Tony’s good cheer and sense of humor, which are so vibrant in person, shine through strongly in this interview.
One visual note: the typewriter in the photograph belonged to Tony’s now-retired Star colleague, the noted humor columnist Joey Slinger. Tony rescued the machine when he saw that it was being discarded, and it now resides in his home.
